The Rise and Fall of a “Casino” Mobster

Convicted hitman turned government witness Frank Cullotta sets the record straight about Tony Spilotro, a Chicago mobster that became a big fish in the Las Vegas underworld. Spilotro, a member of “The Outfit” in the Windy City, became a feared enforcer as he climbed up the criminal ranks. Cullotta grew up with Spilotro, and shares stories of their illegal activities – such as robbing banks, loan sharking, and fixing horse races.

“Tony The Ant,” who never offered second chances, would eventually move to Las Vegas, where his criminal empire included Arizona and Southern California. Cullotta’s goal is to clear any up any misconceptions of his long time friend, who was ultimately killed with his brother in 1986. Cullotta reveals the biological parents of Spilorto’s adopted son, and how the adoption was achieved. Spilorto’s greed and lust for power was his downfall. The author outlines how Spilorto’s lost control of his empire.

I enjoyed Cullotta’s commentary on the death of Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe. There has been speculation that Monroe’s “suicide” might have been linked to the mob. Cullotta also offer his provocative perspective on the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, and shares his thoughts on the many conspiracy theories. The author explores the possible mob connections of former United States Senator Harry Reid.

I recommend this audiobook for the fans of true crime stories. Clay Lomakayu provides near flawless narrator as well!
