With all the recent developments, it is pretty clear that the notorious Jesse James did not die in 1882 as universally recorded. Likewise, I do not believe the historical account by sheriff Pat Garrett that he shot and killed outlaw Billy the Kid in Fort Sumner, New Mexico on July 14, 1881.
“Billy the Kid: An Autobiography” makes a compelling argument that “Brushy Bill” Roberts was the real Billy the Kid. This claim was even explored on the hit television series “Unsolved Mysteries.” By coming out as the real Billy the Kid, “Brushy Bill” was risking his life seeking a pardon, but Roberts died in 1950 before achieving his goal.
Was “Brushy Bill” the real Billy the Kid? You might have a different opinion after enjoying this work.
